Door Unframed: A Bit of History

This is a shot of the door with all framing off.

This house was originally built in 1810-1820's. By the beginning of the 1900's this was the functional front door. This was verified with pictures we have seen.

There is a more formal front door 20 feet down (to the right) that let you into the parlor room with a fireplace and the staircase to upstair bedrooms.

You can tell by this picture that this door wasn't originally a front door or even a door. It is cut into the structure. Still amazed about how large the trees were they used (were actually available then) to frame this home.

Brad and his dad put this actual door in probably about 10 years ago. It had a better seal to keep the cold out. The door prior to this was a 6 pane glass door and solid below. We painted it Swedish colors when we moved in...bright yellow and bright blue. Those were the days when we were young and really believed that a coat of paint could change anything.......except the dog's water dish freezing in the middle of winter. That's when Granmy Polly said.....how 'bout a Rennai heater to keep my granbabies warm.

Sure! Thank you!
